History of the Coleman County Title Company
The origins of the Coleman County Title Company (CCT) can be traced back to 1887 with the only abstract plant back to sovereignty in Coleman County. Don Johnson and Ross Jones purchased an interest in Standard Abstract Company from Weah McCullough in the early 1970s and continued to operate the Standard Abstract Company following Ms. McCullough’s retirement in the late 70s.
Don Johnson, Ross Jones and Steve Autry incorporated the Coleman County Title Company on May 6, 1981 and the assets of the Standard Abstract Co. were transferred into the new corporation. Coleman County Title Company purchased Gregg Title Company in April 1993 (including the assets of the L. Emet Walker Abstract and Title Company and Coleman Abstract Company) and continued to operate as the Coleman County Title Company.
Donna Watson became Manager of CCT in 1982 and continued in that capacity until July 1, 1993 when ownership of CCTC was transferred to her and the abstract plant was retained by the JJA partnership, which then also included Joe D. LeMay. On June 18, 2018 Ross Jones and Hayden Wise purchased equal interests in the Coleman County Title Company from Donna Watson and continue to operate CCT as agents for Stewart Title Guarantee Company and First American Title Insurance. The assets of JJA and the Coleman County Title Company are now owned by Hayden J. Wise, who purchased Ross Jones’ interest in April, 2019.
